Arignar Anna agitated against Periyar”s mismatched marriage.

When Periyar married Maniammai, who was more than 40years younger than him, the personal differences between Annadurai and Periyar split their supporters. Periyar’s mismatched marriage in 1949 with the young lady provided the pretext for the birth of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.


During this period C.N. Annadurai has written an essay on 3-7-1949 in his magazine “Dravida Nadu” about Periyar mismatched marriage and told that because of his marriage he and thousands of supporters of Periyar were ashamed to stand before other people telling that they are his followers.
